Workshops
Egyptian
Raqs Sharqi
This class focuses on the technique and inspiration of Classic Egyptian Dance developed by Mahmoud Reda and Farida Fahmy, which further influenced our Oriental Dance vocabulary with the style of Mohammed Kazafy.
We will work on posture, traveling steps, turns and techniques to be used in classic Egyptian bellydance. This style gives a clear technical quality to the dance, offering elegance and musical expression, as well as a sense of precision in dancing solo, or when composing duets or group patterning.
Level: Int/adv
Date: Thursday January 12th, 2022
Time: 7pm - 9pm
Romantic
Veil
Key tips and more advanced veil technique for oriental veil dance. With a luscious melody, we will be flowing with breath, posture, and feel-good movements for seamless partnering with the veil.
(Please bring a silk or chiffon veil of at least 3 yards-almost 3 meters) in length.

Date: Saturday January 14th, 2022

Turkish
Oryantal
The Turkish Oriental dance has evolved and changed in various characteristic eras, with its golden age and divas of the decades. In this workshop we will familiarize ourselves with the style and movements made famous by the Turkish stars.
Floor work will also be incorporated with Turkish music, allowing the dancer to sink and rise from the floor in various ways and explore the body movements and transitions on the horizontal surface.

Date: Saturday January 14th, 2022
Time: 1pm - 3pm
The Art of
Improvisation
“Shapes, Pathways, and Flavors: A Spatial-Linear Approach to Oriental Dance
Don’t panic! Improvisation can be fun, fascinating…and easy! Using basic movement-theory principles, we will experiment with visualization and somatic movement techniques.
Useful for all dance forms, this class will focus on explorations in isolations, shapes, dynamic changes, transitions and most importantly…pauses and stillness!
We will also explore methods of combining the whole-body movement to improvise within oriental dance rhythms and melodies as well as expressive taksims.
